an order for daily prayer in trinity season

and scripture readings

Evening Prayer

Preparation

My soul waits for the Lord

More than those who watch for the morning,

More than those who watch for the morning.

Confession:

Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done,

and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,

have mercy on us and forgive us;

that we may delight in your will,

and walk in your ways,

to the glory of your Name.  Amen.

Praise

Refrain: In the shadow of Your wings

I will sing Your praises, O Lord  (*may be repeated after each stanza)

The Lord is my light, my salvation:

Whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the refuge of my life:

Of whom shall I be afraid?*

One thing I ask of the Lord,

One thing I seek:

To dwell in the presence of my god,

To gaze on Your holy place,*

I believe I shall see the goodness

Of the Lord in the land of the living.

O wait for the Lord!

Have courage and wait,

Wait for the Lord*

Psalmody

Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, one God: O come, let us adore him:

Concluding Psalm(s) from the Daily Office

end with

Glory to the Father and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit;

as it was in the beginning is now,

and shall be for ever. Amen.

(Silence is kept)

Intercession and the Lord’s Prayer

Collect

Lord Jesus, stay with us, for evening is at hand and the day is past; be our companion in the way, kindle our hearts, and awaken hope, that we may know you as you are revealed in Scripture and the breaking of bread. Grant this for the sake of your love.  Amen.

Conclusion

Let us praise God through Jesus Christ, whose light conquers the darkness of our earthly night.

+In the name of the Father,

and of the Son,

and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.
