Listening to St. Benedict: A Rule for Ordinary People

What use could the Rule of St. Benedict possibly be to us today? Surely that monkish stuff went out with the Middle Ages. It turns out you could learn a lot from a monk. About 1500 years ago, St. Benedict defined monasticism as we now know it in the Western church, with an emphasis on spiritual disciplines that need not be the exclusive purview of those called to the religious life, but that can and should be the concern of all Christians. Our own Anglican heritage, including our prayer book, is built on a foundation of this monastic spirituality. More importantly, the careful cultivation of our souls through prayer and work as an offering to God is a lost art that we desperately need to revive in our own time.

Each Wednesday evening during Lent and into Easter, the adult class led by Deacon Mary Baker and Jeff Reimer, will explore The Rule of St Benedict to begin doing just that.
